Guide To El Alamein

Presentation & Atmosphere

El Alamein is a name that echoes throughout the history of the Second World War. This small coastal village on the Mediterranean, 106 km west of Alexandria, was the scene in 1942 of one of the conflict’s most decisive battles: the Allied victory under Montgomery halted Rommel’s advance toward the Suez Canal. Today, El Alamein is home to military cemeteries of heartbreaking solemnity and an exceptional museum. A destination for history enthusiasts and sensitive souls alike.
